Pow Wow Quilt Top: Finished!

This quilt top took me about a week longer to finish than I had wanted it to... but I am so pleased with how it has turned out!

Pow Wow Quilt Top

This quilt is quite the beast.  I've really been spoiled with the two baby quilts that I've recently finished!

Pow Wow Quilt Top

I'm really in love with the way Pat Bravo's Rock n' Romance looks with the the Art Gallery Cabernet solid.

Pow Wow Quilt Top

The points were the hardest part.  I lost just a couple of the bottom two points of some of the arrows.  The other points were fairly easy to keep.

Pow Wow Quilt Top

All in all, I am very happy about this quilt!  I don't have a backing or binding for it, though, so in the drawer it goes until a later time.

The pattern was very well written and I would definitely make this quilt again.  I think it would be an absolutely darling baby quilt.  Les Amis comes to mind...

Happy Friday, my Friends!  I'm linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts - check out some other finishes for Friday!

Stats for the Week!

I feel like this past week has gone by super fast.

Quilts finished: none
Fabric purchased: Technically, I didn't purchase any fabric last week... but some fabric did arrive to my door!  Whenever my mother purchases fabric, she has it sent to me... Mostly in hopes that I will cut it!

Fabricworm bundles

Both of the bundles are custom Fabricworm bundles my mother is on the left and she surprised me with the one on the right!  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my little bundle, but it is sure fun to get fabric that I wasn't expecting!

I have been busy at work on the 99 blocks that I needed for the twin size Pow Wow quilt top.  Jake and I assembled the order of the quilt top last night and I started sewing them together this morning!

Pow Wow blocks

I am very much pleased with how this quilt is turning out!

I have also started another quilt... I started cutting up that gorgeous Constellations fabric for my Fireworks quilt!

So...
Year to date quilts started: Four
Year to date quilts finished: Four (not the same four!)

I've had some success and I am very excited for the Fireworks quilt!

How's your week?

Monday, Monday

Happy Monday, friends!

I had one big goal for last week and that was to put together the Pow Wow quilt top.  I ignored the dishes, ate my meals quickly, and left the house as little as possible, but I could not get it done!  It took me too long to sew each block together.  I finished the last of the sewing on the blocks Friday, but I finished pressing them this morning.  I also cut the sashing and depending on how long it takes me to decide on the layout, I should be on a fast track to finishing that quilt top!  I plan to post it for a Friday finish!

Pow Wow Quilt Blocks

So, for this week...

  • Actually finish the Pow Wow quilt top
  • Cut the fabric for the Fireworks quilt
  • Finish 8 Fireworks blocks
I knew as soon as I saw the Fireworks pattern on Camille Roskelly's blog that I just had to make it.  It is so beautiful and fun!  I also knew that my little stack on Constellations was going to be perfect for it.

Fireworks Pattern and Constellations by Lizzy House

Although the pattern calls for fat quarters and I have half yards here and I'll have plenty left over to tie up again, it is killing me to even untie this beautiful stack of fabric!  I absolutely love looking at it... and I know I will love looking at it more in a snuggly quilt form... I'm just having a hard time with it!

Do you have a stack of fabric you just don't want to cut into?

A Friday Finish!

Since I have been so furiously working on my Pow Wow quilt, I have only had the time to finish this little project!!

February Woodland Sampler

I am absolutely in love with this little Woodland Sampler!!  It is so fun for me to relax on the couch, watch tv, and stitch up these cute things.  They are small enough that it's no stress to get them done within the month and I like that!

February Woodland Sampler

I cannot wait to get the pattern for March and start stitching it up! It is seriously so much fun!

Also, I usually post pictures of Omi because she is my little shadow, so she's around whenever I have the camera, but yesterday Kio was being particularly adorable (as well as around!).  Kio is 100% a sun seeker and yesterday morning she was pouting that the sun hadn't reached the floor where she could lay in it.  It was, however, on my cutting table, which I wasn't using.  So I pulled up a dog bed and set her on it until the sun was hitting the floor.  She loved it!

Kio

I'm such a sucker for my cute girls!

Happy Friday everyone!

WIP Wednesday: 2.20.13

Since I started cutting fabric for the Pow Wow quilt last week, I have been working pretty steadily on it.  I am really enjoying making the blocks for this quilt.

Pow Wow Progress

I think I've been in love with this quilt ever since I saw this quilt on Flickr.

Pow Wow Progress

I've had some close calls with some of the points, but I haven't lost one yet!  I think if I do lose one, I'll have to rip out the seam and sew it again... it would bother me too much!

Pow Wow Progress

I now have 43 blocks out of the 99 that I need to make the twin size quilt.  The blocks are taking me longer than I thought they would, but I'm still hoping that I can get the quilt top done before Monday!

What are you working on?

Quilting Stats

Over the weekend I was thinking, and I thought it would be fun to have a post a week that sort of reviews my quilting statistics from week to week.  This is a time to be honest with myself in how many projects I start versus how many I finish and answer the question of "how much fabric did I buy last week?"  I feel like it's all part of keepin' it real. So, these stats are for the last week.

Quilts started: One - the Pow Wow quilt and here is the progress of it.  I didn't get much sewn last weekend due to so many family activities, but most of the fabric is cut.  You can't see all of it in this photo.  Also, this is 13 finished blocks out of the 99 that I need...

Pow Wow Progress

Quilts finished: One - Baby Zig
Fabric purchased: Most of the fabric that I purchased was for a specific project.  I always feel so much more justified when I can show my husband exactly what the fabric is for.  So, I bought all of this:

Constellations, Posy, Mama Said Sew, Pearl Bracelets, Les Amis, Carnaby Street 3

  • 4.5 yards of Lizzy House Constellations in natural
  • 4 yards of Lizzy House Constellations in black
  • 1 yard of Lizzy House Constellations Supernova in purple
  • 1/2 yard of Lizzy House Pearl bracelets
  • 1/2 yard of Aneela Hoey's Posy
  • a fat quarter of Mama Said Sew by Sweetwater
  • 1/2 yard each Timber and Leaf by Sarah Watts prints of the playful fox, fox portrait, and the gerbera in blue.
  • 1/2 yard Carnaby Street by Pat Bravo
So, yeah... a lot of fabric.  The Pearl Bracelets, Posy, and Mama Said Sew are all for my future Valentines quilt that I sort of introduced here.  The Constellations fabric is all to make a Fireworks quilt from start to finish.  I had purchased a half yard bundle of the entire line for my birthday.

Constellations for Fireworks Quilt

The rest of the fabric that I purchased... well, I just couldn't live without it, I guess...

Quilts Planned: Four - Fireworks, Lap of Luxe, Modern Plus Quilt, and this one that I'm helping my mom with
Other projects started: None
Other projects finished: None

Beginning of the year to date quilts started: Three
Beginning of the year to date quilts finished: Four

So, these stats make it look like I'm on top of everything and like I only have one project going at a time.  But let's just remember that I finished all my 2012 projects before I started anything new and, it is only February... I feel like I have plenty of time to derail and I want to know when it's happening!  I have a feeling that it's going to happen soon, seeing as I do not have backing for the Pow Wow quilt, but I have everything for the quilt tops for the next two planned quilts...

Also, another reason this may look so together is that I really dislike having a bunch of little pieces around. This seems potentially hazardous to me:

Pow Wow Progress

So, it's sort of a commitment that when I cut it, I'm going to sew it together fairly quickly.  Once the cut pieces are sewn together, I'm suddenly not in such a hurry anymore...

Another Monday List

I would say that even though I was sick in the beginning of last week, I would still count the week as successful.

  • Finish Baby Zig: Yes!  I posted it here on Valentines Day!
  • Get better: Yes! And I am SO glad. I really, really love breathing out of my nose.  Being sick always reminds me of that joy that I take for granted all the time!
  • Wake up at 6 am.: Yes! What a blessing to not be sick!
  • Make this pillow: No.  I found that I could not accurately cut the hexagons without a template.  So, until I have a template, I'm going to put this one off.  I did however, start my Pow Wow quilt!
Wow, was that really it? I had to go back and check! But yeah, that was really it...

I have one lofty goal for this week.  Jake's company is doing a sort of three day conference and Jake is expecting to be home late every night until Friday this week.  So, I intend to use that time to sew!
  • Finish the Pow Wow quilt top
As of now, I only have the one tester block finished.  The fabric to make the blocks is all cut, but I still need to cut the strips that go between the blocks.  It's been a lot of cutting.

Anyways, I've been thrown off my schedule this week due to a lot of family activities this past weekend and the holiday today.  I'm looking on being back on track tomorrow!

I hope you're having a great holiday!
